The children are naming the types of writing. I love this because it wasn’t just one type of writing but they had a choice to do what writers do. No one says to a writer that they have to write a certain kind of piece. As writers they have tools. I want the children to be okay to say, “Today I feel like writing a narrative.” “I feel in a poetic mood so I am going to write poetry.” And so on. They have these choices. It was cool to see them write it, to name it, to let others name it.
